the first 1000 days have more influence on a child’s future than any other time in their life … protecting the mothers we protect the children
Protecting women during pregnancy is essential for their babies’ development. Good nutrition during gestation and the first two years after birth (the first 1000 days) is crucial for a healthy future; malnutrition in that period can cause irreparable biological, cognitive, affective and social issues. Breastfeeding is the best way of fighting malnutrition, particularly in babies under six months old.
Neonatal mortality due to malnutrition during pregnancy has increased in the last few years in Venezuela. Our programmes aim to protect babies since their gestation by not only providing nutritional supplements to pregnant women and new mothers, but also training, advice and support for pregnant and lactating women.
