Dear friends and collaborators

We would like to share with everyone who supports our organization and makes our work possible, the information that we will soon be sending to the relevant authorities in Venezuela, regarding the report that was presented in the National Assembly (Asamblea Nacional) on CITGO and funding through the Fundación Simón Bolívar. In that document our foundation is mentioned as an organization that received funds from the Fundación Simón Bolívar. We are sorry that there is confusion about this, but our organization has never entered any agreement with the Fundación Simón Bolívar; nor have we ever received any funds from the Fundación Simón Bolívar or from Citgo. In January 2020, the Fundación Simón Bolívar, through a small grants program offered to provide funds to Meals4Hope to develop a nutritional recovery project in Venezuela. Meals4Hope refused the funding offer from Fundación Simón Bolívar, we never entered an agreement and no funds were received.

When we refused the funding offer in 2020, we asked the Fundación Simón Bolívar, in order to avoid any confusion, that they made sure our name was never on their website or any of their communications. However, in January 2020 there was a press release in which they mentioned us. That year we sent a message through the Citgo website asking for the published information to be rectified, as our foundation never received funds. Citgo/Fundación Simón Bolívar clarified in their website that Meals4Hope refused their funding offer and that we did not receive any funds from them. You can see the Citgo communication in this link.

Since 2016, Meals4Hope develops, with community participation, programs on nutrition, water and hygiene, health, training, livelihood (gardens and poultry farming) and women empowerment (including menstrual hygiene). The main participants and beneficiaries of our programs are children, pregnant and lactating women, older people and families in disadvantaged communities. Thanks to support and volunteering, in 2023 our foundation provided nutritional support to over 4000 children and food programs for over 3500 people.

The work we develop is only possible due to the committed efforts of volunteers, especially people from the communities we work in, and the cooperation of institutions and organization in each area. We work with community councils, health centers, schools, always strictly following our code of conduct and the law. When we help, we base our work on the needs of the people, protecting their dignity, without discrimination.
Our organization is independent and autonomous, working within the Venezuelan legal framework and with no religious or political party links. The funds we have had to support our work come from international cooperation, within the diplomatic relationships of the Venezuelan state; as well as individual donations and fundraising activities. Among these fundraising activities are people who in lieu of presents for their birthdays ask for donation to be made to our programs; raffles; runs and diners. For

example, at this time, in Spain, there’s a campaign through which restaurants contribute towards food programs for children in need.

We are very grateful for everyone who supports us from various parts of the world. In the various communities we continue to work for others with commitment, sensibility and care.
